Great Dixter, built c1450, is the birthplace of the late Christopher Lloyd, gardening author. Its Great Hall is the largest medieval timber framed hall in the country. The house was largely designed by the architect, Sir Edwin Lutyens, who added a 16th century Yeoman's Hall, moved from nearby Benenden. The gardens feature a variety of topiary, wild meadows and the famous Long Border and Exotic Garden. There is a specialist nursery on site which offers an array of unusual plants.
